Dr. Shane will help guide your family through the college and university selection and application process.
Dr. Shane attended Valley Forge Military Academy for grades 9-12. After Valley Forge, he attended Rollins College, in Winter Park, Florida and Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Sociology at the University of Miami. Soon after completing his B.A., Erik completed his Master of Science in Secondary Education with a concentration in Literature. As a graduate student at U.M., he was nominated to the National Dean’s List.
Dr. Shane began teaching high school English in 1993. He also taught film, debate, and speech. During his first year as a teacher, Erik was nominated as the Sallie Mae Beginning Teacher of the Year Candidate. He was awarded the “Golden Apple Award” for teacher of the year in 1995.
Erik Shane, Ph.D. has been nominated to “Who’s Who in American Teaching” every year that he has been an educator.
As a doctoral student, Dr. Shane was selected to join Kappa Delta Pi for outstanding performance in Educational Leadership. In 2004, he completed his Ph.D. in Leadership and Education at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. Our founder, Erik Shane, Ph.D. maintained a 4.0 G.P.A. throughout his studies. His dissertation was entitled, “Parent Choice – Sending a Son to a Military Secondary Boarding School in Lieu of a Traditional Boarding School: A Phenomenological Study.” In late 2005, Erik presented his paper at the Florida Educational Research Association Conference. Shortly after the presentation, his article was published in the Journal of School Choice. A copy of the article can be downloaded HERE.
Erik Shane, Ph.D. has taught in both public and private school settings before dedicating all of his time to Leading and Learning. Dr. Shane was the Dean at La Salle High School in Coconut Grove, FL from 1997-2015. There he built an unparalleled reputation in the community and radically improved the school for the better. During his tenure, enrollment nearly doubled and the school’s climate and reputation blossomed. All of these accomplishments were done through the use of positive energy and strong leadership. His retirement party was attended by nearly 800 people.
